REUTERS/Nir Elias/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Israel has raised $200 million from diaspora bond sales since the war with Hamas began, Israel Bonds said in a statement. The group, the government's vehicle for diaspora bonds, said that U.S. state and local governments accounted for $150 million of the purchases. "The response across many U.S. states was immediate and demand exceeded the amount of Israel bonds that we were able to sell at that time," Dani Naveh, president at Israel Bonds, said in a statement. Israel Bonds said it had nearly reached its standard annual goal to raise $1 billion before the war began. As of Dec. 31, it had $5.4 billion worth of outstanding bonds, representing approximately 12% of Israel's external governmental debt.

JERUSALEM, March 14 (Reuters) - Israel's Finance Ministry said on Tuesday that a panel formed to assess the fallout from the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SIVB.O) determined that the immediate liquidity risk has been averted. The ministry in a statement cited a decision by U.S. authorities to back accounts - even those uninsured - at the bank, which has been an important lender for Israeli technology companies. "Israel's economy is strong and relatively easy to manage in times of crisis," Smotrich said. Smotrich was in the United States for Sunday's Israel Bonds conference. Major American-Jewish organizations say they will boycott Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich during his Sunday visit to Washington, underlining the divide between some of Israel’s staunchest allies in the U.S. and far-right officials in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ’s government. Mr. Smotrich, a longtime leader of Israel’s religious nationalists, is traveling to Washington for a conference organized by Israel Bonds, a U.S.-based organization that promotes the purchase of Israeli government securities. Israeli finance ministers have traditionally attended similar conferences to drum up investment interest.
Smotrich said last week that while he opposed vigilantism, he believed "that Huwara needs to be erased" by Israel. The U.S. State Department called the comments "irresponsible," "repugnant" and "disgusting" and said Netanyahu should reject and disavow them. Netanyahu has said that he - and not coalition partners like Smotrich - calls the shots on Israeli diplomacy. "I am still waiting to hear a condemnation from the Palestinian Authority for the murder of the Yaniv brothers," Netanyahu added. At least 62 Palestinians, including gunmen and civilians, have been killed since the start of 2023, the Palestinian health ministry said.
[1/2] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu looks on as he convenes a weekly cabinet meeting amid surge of violence in Jerusalem and the West Bank, at the Prime Minister's office in Jerusalem, January 29, 2023. The blue-chip Tel Aviv 35 index (.TA35) was 1.% lower in afternoon trade, while the broader TA-125 index (.TA125) dipped 1.7%. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office declined to comment to Reuters. Critics have said the move will compromise the independence of the judiciary and undermine Israel's democratic system of checks and balances. There was no sign of a large-scale military operation in the works, and Netanyahu said Israel was not seeking an escalation.
